The rainiest day

The rainiest day

My town in Mexico gets flooded every rain. People who live close to the canal put rainproof furniture on the first floor, and as soon as the rainy season starts, they bring all the valuables upstairs. It’s a lost battle against Mother Nature and bad city planning; people just get used to it. But when you live in the most expensive city in the United States, the idea of your house getting flooded never crossed my mind. I would never have thought I would end up on the roof of my house with my two cats and my two dogs, and if I had dreamt of it, I would have thought, Wow, that was a crazy nightmare!- but it was real; we were living the nightmare.

When the water was on my knee and the furniture started moving, I knew it was the moment to start evacuating. People die in the floodings because they get hit by the objects in the water when the current is pulling them.

Dev arrived as soon as the water was coming down, and we knew everything was gone.

After that was the week of disappointments when the insurance wouldn’t cover anything and only Best Buy covers water damage by flood, the week when we found out we were homeless, and we found refuge in my best friend’s home, but at the same time was the week when we started seeing all the surrounding love, all the people who wanted to help us in so many different ways, clothes, food, a warm meal, money, house stuff and even make up; we couldn’t believe it. All our friends and family worried about us and tried to make this moment a little bit easier, it really warmed our hearts on those moments that we were feeling so helpless.

Thank you to all. Because every time I saw Dev’s heart melting because one of his friends or family say to him – you are not alone; we are here, that was all we needed to not lose our minds.

Y gracias amigos y familia por estar ahi, en momentos como ese todo cuenta por mas mínimo y te hace fuerte sentir que tu gente esta contigo.

I send you love and good wishes

We are here for you too

We find a new home; it’s petite but has a backyard; a gem in San Diego, crazy rental city. We have a TV to watch the Super Bowl, and we don’t have a bed yet, but we bought the best pull-out sofa, so when you come to San Diego, you stay with us, and I cook for you.

Our pets love this new house and we love this new house. You forget the value of things when you take things for granted, I never pray for a roof because I never thought I would be without one.
